Dobber bowling |
|
A dobber bowler (def.): a bowler of paceless, little trundlers which look deceptively easy to hit.
People may have noticed that at Bathford we have a particular problem with dobber bowling, that is that we can't play it.
Our particular nemesis are the dobbers of Wanborough. Wanborough are a good team, very hospitable, got a lovely ground, some good batsmen, but you would have to say that their attack is notable for its ability in bowling straight, good length, dinky, little seamers, which just swing and seam a little bit in 'slow' motion.
Indeed its got so bad that one of our team nows suffers from a newly, officially recognised, medical complaint 'Wanboroughphobia', where even mention of the word causes him to lie full length on the floor, shaking his head and saying 'what was that, Galer'. In an attempt to exorcise these demons we have started composing a Wanborough song.
Song to the tune of 'Wombling free':
An alternative suggestion is, sung to the tune of Dwarf's song from Snow White:
They dob, dob, dob, dob, dob, dob, dob, dob, dob the whole day through,
There is a prize from the club secretary for anyone who writes some more lyrics. |
