Bathford C.C. Bathford C.C. - Interesting Features

It would be fair to say that whilst the Bathford ground is a quality arena, it does have a number of unusual features shared with other famous grounds.

The slope:
The other home of cricket, Lords has a slope and so does Bathford. Rollover the image to experience cricket at Bathford.

The Bathford Slope
Anybody who is really bored at work, and has looked at this whole web site, will probably worked out the reason why the ground has such a good view, is because it is on a slope.
In fact the slope is quite noticeable, with the bottom boundary of the ground enjoying a totally different climate from the top. Often the 3rd man fielder has short sleeves on, while square leg wears a full arctic body suit, ice axe and crampons, with these accessories proving useful for ascending, descending & traversing the slope.

The Tree and the Rock
The St. Lawrence Ground at Canterbury used to have a tree and so did Bathford. Bathford is however, as far as I know, unique in having a rock.

The Rock
Bathford CC have a pet rock, its fairly large (several tonne), and fields just behind point (to the right hander) at the Ashley end of the ground. Actually comes into play very rarely, but does allows us to shout 'mind the rock' when a fielder goes anywhere near it. Apparently its a well capping. We used to also have a tree, fortunately now removed.

The view
Sabina Park has a view of distant hills and so does Bathford.

looking NE, Bannerdown and the By brook valley
The view from the ground is quite exceptional, giving a panorama of Richmond Heights, the eastern suburbs of Bath, Little Solsbury Hill, Bannerdown, the By brook valley, Kingsdown and Bathford Hill.
