Bathford C.C. Bathford C.C. - Biographical details

Adam Cozens
A very promising batsman, Adam has the great advantages of living in Bathford, and being part of that impeccable bloodstock line, the 'house of Ball'.
Club traditionalists will be pleased to note that
Uncle Steven has offered Adam a place in the 'round of death', as soon as he has finished his GCSE's.

Top tip - Mike Noel says 'never cut in May'
Alex Bowater
A punishing batsman, Alex wintered in Australia in 1999 to ready himself for the pace and bounce of the Bathford track. For some reason had trouble timing the ball in 2000/1, often playing too early and over the top of the ball.

Andrew 'Cosser' Cosgrove
Bathford resident and statistician, Cosser came of age last season as batsman. A talented fielder, very occasional spinner of the ball and one of few players to be able to start the club roller. Cambridge graduate Cosser was last spotted at Bath Bus station investigating routes to Dundee (by bus?), where he is hoping to study for a Ph.D.

Carlos Aguera
The "mystery man" of the club. A title earned for his very moderate drinking rather than his
latin good looks. Fielder supreme, improving batsman and the only person in the club with a 'Porch'. Makes a lovely tea
Stop press 2002
Carlos no longer has a 'Porsche', but he does have a profile.

Champagne Moment
Adapted from the vote of the same name on 'Test Match Special', it has subtly evolved at Bathford. Not always awarded, the magnum of Champagne has become a pint of Cider, downed fairly rapidly. Memorable past vote winners include
Baller's kit, winner on a very warm day at Nettleton

Chris Prall
Chris Prall
Chris is at present at University, but hopefully will soon be back to bowl some prodigiously spun wrist spin.

Darren Sutton
Newly re-elected skipper of the Bathford 2nds, had a great season with the ball last year. He has batted everywhere from opening to No.11. His experiences as a pedagogue and pest controller could come in handy with team discipline.

Dav Ludford
Lager fuelled opening bowler who, when the spirit of 'The White Horse' hits him, is almost unstoppable. Missed much of the last season due to injury, he's raring to get stuck in again, particularly against disabled, ageing or still suckling opposition

Derek Brown
Without Derek there would be no Bathford Cricket Club. Groundsman,
historian, treasurer, player and mine of useful information, he has no desire whatsoever to be anywhere near the Round of Death

Dobber bowling
I'm not saying where obsessed with teams that can't bowl, but which skittle us for very few runs, but they now have their
own page.

Eddie Prall
Missing, presumed having a good time, Eddie's increasingly rare appearances for Bathford are more than often accompanied with great displays of fielding, shouting encouragement and a refusal to umpire.

suits you, sir
Gideon Kibblewhite
A Bathford legend in the making, combines an effective if unconventional fielding style with one of the best forward defence shots in the league. His ambition is to open the bowling for Bathford

Jim Cumpson
Laid back newcomer to the Bathford 2nds, followed a series of ducks and single figure scores with a quite breath-taking 54 no at Marshfield last season. They'll be more to come in 2001.

John Higgs
King of the nurdle, John will never hit a boundary where a single will do. Useful occasional off-spinner and excellent fielder. He'll also do you a good deal on a return journey to Bristol and back

Kev 'Jellyhead' Moggeridge
'Jelly' is an
Avonvale RFC great, and some time bar steward (correct spelling?). He can often be kidnapped from the clubhouse bar if short of players. He and Sue have just become parents (to Kate), we send our best wishes and hope to see all 3 of you behind the bar fairly soon.

Kevin Jones
Kevin Jones
'Jonah' is a Bathford legend, and was prominently mentioned in the national press when savaged by flying ants during a mammoth innings. Unusually for a successful batsman Jonah has a unique batting technique, combining the best of Courtney Walsh, Lance Cairns and Phil Tufnell.

Leon Chignall
Leon is an
Avonvale RFC player. Very quick over the ground, we like to keep him busy on the point boundary on hot days. Like Jelly he can often be kidnapped from the bar if short of players.

Ruski relives Glastonbury One of Ruski's longer innings

Matthew Russell
'Ruski' is
Avonvale RFC groundsman, and a recent convert to Bathford CC's cause. A brilliant field and left handed big hitter, shot selection is not a problem for Matthew as he attempts to launch every ball.

Matthew Watts
'Math' has returned from a winter in Germany, hopefully to strengthen the Bathford middle order. A useful back-up bowler, we hope for great things from him in 2002.

Mike Noel
Yet another Bathford legend, batsman/wk 'Noeler' has played for the club in 4 decades. Although now one of our most senior players Mike is still refining his technique with his latest batting stance combining elements of Graham Gooch, the Tin Man from Wizard of Oz and Baseball.

Myths & legends
These are many and numerous, some perhaps apocryphal, some gospel truths. Due to the libel and obscenity laws a number are unprintable, but

- - - - - - 'The first team went to play Dauntsey for their first match of the season. As dedicated athletes only 2 of them had actually managed to pick up a bat since the previous August. Arriving at the club for a pre-match 'team talk' they were suprised to find a distraught
Dave Porter outside the bar telling telling them that he had arrived at 12, to find the bar man missing and the bar closed.
Undaunted the team found its way into the wilds beyond Chippenham, arriving to find that Dauntsey not only had a bar, but that it was open. Two rapid pints all round was the order of the day, followed by Baller winning the toss, choosing to bat, and the team being all out for 42, with the game over by 4.30. For some reason the journey home, via Box, took 7 hours.' - - - - - - -

Neil Worley
A resident of Hatchetts, Neil is one of Bathford's growing hoard of 'occasional' players. Keen to bowl, bat, field and even keep wicket, Neil has yet to produce a Bathford tea.

Wide Boy
Oliver Clark
Ollie is the great hope for Bathford sport, a goalkeeper for the football club, lock for
Avonvale RFC and all rounder for Bathford CC. Ollie has voluntarily left the 'Round of Death', because they didn't drink quickly enough. At present he is drinking studying at Southampton University.

Paul 'Action' Jackson
Paul Jackson
'Jacko' is our new first XI captain, following a ruthless pre-season coup d'etat. The lobbying and voting were intense, before, following several re-counts, Jacko was elected by a single hanging chad.

Bathford CC - home of the 'Round of Death'
Round of Death
What can you say, famous enough to have a mention on its own. This a round for those who never miss their turn in buying the drinks, even if it comes around fairly frequently. Composition may vary, however the pace of the 'Round of Death' is always steady, but relentless. A distant relation of the '
Champagne Moment'

Salim Suleman
Another Bathford resident, 'Sal', is a very good fielder in the covers. A popular team member, Sal is unlikely to join the '
Round of Death'.

Simon Brown
Simon Brown hails from Trowbridge, and is an orthodox bat and useful medium pacer. Simon is a great player when the ball is coming on, but has struggled on the lower, slower pitches.

Simon Machin
Simon 'Muncher' Machin, is a classically actioned offspinner. A prolific wicket taker, his command of loop, guile, spin and flight are totally wasted on the lower reaches of the Wiltshire League.

Young Stan Cherry
Stan Cherry
Proof that Bathford's youth policy is alive and well, young Stan made a successful return to the 2nd team last season to continue in his efforts of clubbing the ball as far as possible out of every cricket ground in the county.

Steve Vowles
The ex-captain, 'Juice' is another Bathford sporting great, who still plays outside half for
Avonvale RFC. Initially a reluctant captain, he was growing into the role, before being ruthlessly removed by Jacko in a pre-season coup. An orthodox opening bat he is particularly strong through the on-side. Another life member of the 'Round of Death'.
