10th August:
After friday's monsoon we were quite suprised to get a game in at all. The Moredon pitch was extremely green, and under prepared and the outfield absolutely enormous, with the grass both wet and long.
It was always going to be an important toss to win, and needless to say we lost it and found ourselves batting.
Our batsmen gritted it out in difficult conditions, with Matt Fowle, the skipper and Northy all making valuable contributions. Baller was top scorer with 49, and our final total of 121 for 8 was worth at least 50 runs more under better conditions.
When Moredon batted the pitch had dried, and the sun came out, and they looked likely winners after they had reached 89 for 3, despite sustained pressure by the Bathford attack. However at this point, the introduction of Baller and Northey reeked havoc, with the runs drying up and the wickets beginning to tumble.
When we reached the last over Moredon needed 8 to win with 1 wicket in hand, which fortunately fell to a rampant Baller's yorker, leaving us victors by 7 runs.
The winner of a keenly contested Champagne moment was Matt Watts, for combination of decisive calling before dropping a skier, dropping the potentially match winning catch low at mid-wicket, failing to walk when caught behind, starting to drink the champagne moment pint before the vote, and creeping in early at tea and pinching a samosa, meaning that Ollie could only have seven with his tea.

I haven't heard from the seconds, result to follow.
The II's beat Chippenham IV's, Chippenham 88 all out, Bathford 91 for 4. With promising all-rounder and Colin Croft look-a-like, Adam Cozens, taking a Bathford p.b. of 5 for 19.

3rd August:
Leaders Cherhill were defeated at Bathford, where the first XI survived some good seam bowling in difficult conditions to reach 161 all out, with Mezzer hitting a brilliant quick 50.
Cherhill were always behind the rate with the bat after early wickets, and ended on 132 for 9, with Mezzer taking 4 for 20 in 12 and Darrel 3 for 16 in 14 overs.
At Cherhill, visiting the II's scored 134-6 with Adam Cozens (41) and John Higgs (27). Cherhill steadily lost wickets in reply at Matt Hunter took 3-47 in 14.2 overs but, the home side finally got home by three wickets.

27th July:
Urchfont batted conservatively at Bathford, and after 20 overs had just reached 50. That was the high spot of the afternoon for us as the next 25 overs went for the best part of 200 to some very high quality shot making, leaving Urchfont on 235 for 6 at the close.
We never really threatened this total after a hat trick of Northy, Alex B and Adam Cozens ripped our middle order out.
Baller and Adam Ferguson staged a partial recovery, but we ended up batting for the 150 batting point, which Baller secured on his way to 75 n.o.
Champagne moment winner was Ollie for a 'catch it or wear it', caught and bowled, in a good fielding display.

I haven't heard from the seconds since their team bonding night in Chippenham, but I'd like to thank them for the email titled 'Lapp Dancing Club', a night of traditional dancing by Scandanavian reindeer herders sounds very cultural.
The attached image '~hris_gets_a_Texas_Shoeshine.jpg' didn't come through, so I am not sure what that was all about.
Result to follow
I now have the result, apparently the above mentioned email was nothing to do with the II's, very strange.
Seconds had a great victory, with the
Skipper taking 5 and Ian Waller 4 with the ball. With the bat a fine 100 hundred by Andy Sutton took us to victory with Andy reaching his century, and hitting the winning runs with a 6.
Photo's of team bonding also exist, thanks to Carlos. Unfortunately no photo's of the traditional dancing by Scandanavian reindeer herders, but you can't have everything.

20th July:
The first XI looked to have a decent batting line-up for our bottom of the table clash with Spye Park, but we never really got going and despite reasonable knocks from Northy , Vowler and Pete Noades, we were all out for a disappointing 143 in the 45th over.

With the ball it never really happened for us and after Spye Park accumulated their way to a hundred for the opening wicket, there was only ever one winner.

The seconds batted first against Swindon UC II, but there 121 was never enough and divine intervention was not required as the 'Churches cruised to victory.

13th July:
Both teams undefeated
6th July:
The first XI welcomed back Ginno, from the wilds of Manchester, and looked to have a decent batting line-up. The bowling looked attack a little thin, with the exception of Baller, who never looks thin.
As it turned out we bowled fairly well to limit Seagry to 180, Baller 4 for 38, but against a tight Seagry attack we tailed away to end on a disappointing 77 all out.

The seconds batted first and reached 169 for 5 with the evergreen Mike Noel 76 No, unfortunately it proved not too be enough as Warminster got them for 6 down

29th June:
Bathford firsts travelled to Wanborough more in hope than expectation, and did well to restrict Wanborough to 201 on a good track. With Darrel probably pick of the bowling with 3 for 42 off 15.
When Bathford batted it was the Baller & Mezzer show, with Paul Merrett out at the death for 91, and Steve Ball an undefeated 96 .
Champagne moment winner was skipper Jacko for hitting the winning 4 and allowing Baller to have double jug avoidance.
22nd June:
It was really a repeat of the Cherhill match, in this case we were inserted, never got going and capitulated to a string of poor shots. The opening bowlers for Moredon bowled well, but it was not an unplayable display and indeed it would be fair to describe them as bordering on 'dobber'. Bathford were again indebted to Luke Cozens for getting us to 67ao.
Moredon were never in trouble and won for 3 wickets down.
Bathford 67 ao, Moredon 68 for 3
Champagne moment winners were Northey and Luke Cozens, the former for a brilliant run-out whilst lieing on the floor, and the latter for making sure the game lasted to opening time.
I think the seconds won at Bathford, with some unplayable spin bowling from John Higgs, but I await confirmation.
15th June:
It was a great victory, we were always in control and never looked like losing.
Unfortunately the football then finished and the cricket started. Flushed with Englands victory and 2 pints of bitter the skipper won the toss and we batted. We never really got going, and again throw our wickets away to some poor shot making, with Darrel, caught at long-on for a duck when we were already in trouble, probably the worst culprit. Only some inspired late hitting by Luke Cozens and Stan Cherry, getting us past the 75 batting point.
Cherhill were never in trouble and won for 3 wickets down.
Bathford 80 ao, Cherhill 82 for 3
Champagne moment winner was Baller, for his first over of the season.
The seconds fared in similar manner at Bathford.
Bathford 53ao 1, Cherhill 2 57-3
8th June:
It was wet, it was miserable, it rained, it brightened up, but all too little, too late.
The weather is definitely taking the piss.
1st June:
A high scoring game at Bathford saw the home side gain a narrow four-run win over improving Spye Park.
Paul Jackson, with a Bathford pb of (82), and Paul Merrett (77) helped Bathford to 217-4. Messer then took 4-49 in 15 overs as Spye Park closed 4 runs short on 213-8.

Bathford 217-4, Spye Park 213-8

18th May:
The first XI beat Seagry in a gripping encounter at Bathford.
Bathford openers
Beaner & Jacko made a solid start but we only accelerated in the last 10 overs during which Messer (68) aided by Math Watts (28) and Alex Bowater (8) added 93.
With the ball after an early wicket for Alex Seagry looked well placed at 79 for 1, but then Northey stepped up with a Bathford PB of 6 for 27, as Seagry's batsman departed playing for the spin that just wasn't there.
The result stayed in doubt right to the end with Seagry again looking favorites when they needed 20 to win in 3 over with 3 wickets in hand, but Northey's 6th wicket, and 2 in 3 balls for Messer saw us to victory.
Our victory was noted by some great fielding, and first team debuts/returns for Luke Cozens & Matt Fowle.
Bathford 161 for 5, Seagry 149 all out
Champagne moment winner was our new skipper Jacko, for his brilliant half turn, pike and somersault when falling over the rock, and sad attempt to get up quickly and pretend nothing had happened.

The 2nd II failed to make enough runs against a powerful Warminster IV's, on their 'magic carpet', and were well beaten at Warminster.

11th May:
A numerically depleted first XI were beaten by Swindon III's, in a game where our 9 men, including young Stan Cherry and Joe Vowles competed admirably, but just had too much to do. We had a good opening stand between captains old & new, putting on 80 for the first wicket, but again, on a pitch offering considerable lateral movement, found it hard to accelerate and ended on 131 for 7.
Swindon batted cautiously and eventually made it home in the 42ndover, for 5 wickets down.
Bathford 131 for 7, Swindon III 132 for 5

The 2nd II failed to make enough runs against a powerful Biddestone III's, and were well beaten at Bathford.

4th May:
A some what depleted first XI were comfortably beaten by Dauntsey, on a slow Bathford pitch which made run scoring very difficult. Dauntsey inserted us and we lost wickets fairly steadily to a stream of lofted attacking shots, aided by some good catching. We briefly rallied with Northey making 42, but after he holed out to square leg, Martin Gale, in his fair well appearance for 2002, was marooned strike less at one end, with us all out for 110 in the 32nd over.
Dauntsey batted very sensibly, and were only in trouble briefly after 2 early wickets for Galer. The pick of the bowling was Northey with 3 for 30'ish, but there were relatively few alarms as Dauntsey crawled to victory in the 38th over.
Bathford 110 all out, Dauntsey 111 for 5
Champagne moment winner was our new skipper Jacko, for his brilliant reaction catch at short extra cover, in a match remarkable for having no dropped catches.

The 2nd 11 took a mixture of youth and experience to Bradford, where they experienced the ups and downs of league cricket in conceding 6 an over in the Bradford Beehive total of 272, with the pick of the bowling being Sam Hewitt. With the bat, we never threatened the 'Beehive' total but finished comfortably not out, a relatively rare achievement for the II's.
